"I been to the edge. And there I stood and looked down" 🙌🏻 💯 #KurtVonnegut

"Non ci sono quasi personaggi, in questa storia, e non ci sono quasi confronti drammatici, perché la maggior parte degli individui che vi compaiono sono malridotti, sono solo giocattoli indifferenti in mano a forze immense. Uno dei principali effetti della guerra, in fondo, è che la gente è scoraggiata dal farsi personaggio." #kurtvonnegut #mattatoion5 #war #books #realism

This is Sunday, and the question arises, what'll I start tomorrow? ------------------------------ 📷: @motolyric

Spent today painting. A work in progress, but here’s one of my old favorites! . . . #kurtvonnegut #nomatterhowbadly #dancetotheradio #makeart #createsomething #supportthearts #supportartists #trusttheprocess

“So now we can build an unselfish society by devoting to unselfishness the frenzy we once devoted to gold and to underpants.” ~ Kurt Vonnegut . Of all the things to be learned from Breakfast of Champions the one which carried the most impact for me was this: If we were to refocus just an ounce of our time on being kind and decent human beings instead on chasing the frivolous bullshit that the world throws at us, we might just become a more compassionate and worthy society. . #kurtvonnegut #vonnegut #breakfastofchampions #modernclassic #classicliterature #ireadbooks #ireadpastmybedtime #modernclassics #book

So, I’ve been taking the short 4 week version of Sterling Hundley’s Ideation Lab class. These are some thumbnail rough comps for the short story “The Drone King” by Kurt Vonnegut. They were done in black sumi ink and FW white ink over a watercolor wash. #ideationlab #sketch #sketchbook #sketching #sketch #sketches #sketchaday #comp #droneking #vonnegut #kurtvonnegut #drawing #drawings #ink #inkdrawing #sumiink #sumi #penandink #fwink #bees #queenbee #beehive #watercolor #yellow #yelloworange #orange #artistsoninstagram #art

"The world breaks everyone and afterward many are strong at the broken places. But those that will not break, it kills. It kills the very good and the very gentle and the very brave impartially. If you are none of these, you can be sure it will kill you too, but there will be no special hurry." - A Farewell to Arms // Ernest Hemingway . Happy #socksunday, book babes. ♡ I love these banned book socks from @outofprint so I thought I'd do a send up to some of the banned/challenged books I own. . 📷 Pictured here: . •Lolita // Vladimir Nabokov •The Great Gatsby // F. Scott Fitzgerald •The Color Purple // Alice Walker •Slaughterhouse Five // Kurt Vonnegut •A Farewell to Arms // Ernest Hemingway . QOTD: What's your favorite banned book/challenged book? . Mine is Slaughterhouse Five. ☠ . I hope you all had a lovely weekend & have a good night! It's been a rainy & stormy here which is perfect reading weather! ⛈📚 . Talk to you all soon! 💕 . . . . . #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookphotos #bookphotography #bookpictures #bookworm #booknerd #booklover #bookish #bookcollector #bookcollection #bookblog #bookblogger #bookreview #bookreviews #read #reader #reading #amreading #bannedbook #bannedbooks #challengedbooks #outofprint #novel #novels #fiction #kurtvonnegut #alicewalker #ernesthemingway

I urge you to please notice when you are happy, and exclaim or murmur or think at some point, “If this isn’t nice, I don’t know what is.” #kurtvonnegut #sokurtvonne #artsyfuck #gpoy

Ok these were bought this year on 3-10-18 this is about the time I realized I wanted to begin getting bookshelves and setting them up with figures and such like the ones you see on #Instagram I have always wanted to build a mini library because I’ve been a reader my whole life. Since reading about #edgarallanpoe and doing a book report on him which I will find and post a pic of if I can find it. I also fell in love with #shakespeare and #kurtvonnegut at the age of 10 so yeah this has been a life long goal. I can’t wait to post my shelves and reading area but that will come later :) #bookishmerch #bookworm #booklove #harrypotter #harrypottermerch

#diversifivebooks * Thanks to @soraiazohdi for this tag📚💕 What a great way to see what books we love, forgotten and learned to love. * * * 📖A book that you loved before joining Bookstagram: OF MICE AND MEN by John Steinbeck Thanks to my sophomore English teacher, who made this book such an emotional experience. Those last 10 pages get me every.single.time😭 * 📖A book by an author of a different ethnicity to you: ONE MAN’S BIBLE by Gao Xingjian Though a work of semi-autobiographical fiction, it’s always interesting to read about the taboo ongoings of common people under an oppressive regime. In this case, Communist China and the Cultural Revolution, where friends can become enemies and enemies can become friends. * 📖A book you are excited to read by or about a person of color: CHILD OF THE DARK (Quarto de Despejo) by Carolina Maria de Jesus The diary of a woman living in São Paulo’s penurious favelas in the 1950s. Having been to São Paulo twice, I read this to contrast living conditions and efforts made to shrink this low caste, and was disappointingly surprised by how much has and hasn’t changed. * 📖A book that you love but rarely see on Bookstagram: NO SURRENDER by Hiroo Onoda The biographical account by Onoda, the last Japanese WWII holdout. Unaware the war had ended, he continued his rogue fight for THIRTY years in the Philippine jungle. Incredible story of mental and physical fortitude and resilience. * 📖A book on a genre that you don’t normally read but ended up loving: SCI-FI books This genre never appealed to me, but the Bookstagram community and accounts, specifically @yuanvillanueva @l.kingley @book.sf @hacktrash @collectiblesciencefiction , convinced me to pick it up. I’m not crazy about overly futuristic sci-fi, the same way I struggle to immerse myself in high fantasy. I prefer ones that show their age a bit, like with clunky robots and automatons, panels with chunky buttons that click and clack and light up, time-honored rockets that use fuel and are noisy, controls that beep and boop, and so on. Something about that technologically primitive charm makes it more accessible, familiar yet new. * CONTINUED IN THE COMMENTS⬇️
